Semester Two - Open Brief

ASSEMBLAGE PIECES

These four assemblage works were made as part of a one day workshop concerning fragments of time/memory. The inspiration for these were drawn from a ruin found by chance near Crombie, Angus – my idea of thought revolving around how buildings are left to ruin, how memories of when the building was “alive” are now faded and what is left is stone slowing being reclaimed by nature.

My initial starting point was to write a diary like entry relating to my visit to the site and from this I highlighted phrases that I felt captured an idea of time or memory. Each piece was then formed around one of these phrases and bark I had collected from the site.

The phrases/titles are:

Inside The Falling Structure
What Once Were Windows
Destroying Them and Keeping Them Standing
The Silence Is More Than Silent
